Puerto Vallarta Weather

Puerto Vallarta weather falls under the classification of “Tropical Wet and Dry”. With a yearly average lows holding at the low 60s and average highs leveling off at the high 80’s, you can’t go too wrong no matter what season you plan your trip to Puerto Vallarta.

Here is a basic, yearly overview of the weather in Puerto Vallarta as well as a few other seasonal facts for optimum travel plans:

  • Autumn  -  The autumn season in Puerto Vallarta is from September 22 - December 21. You’ll find the average temperature at 79 degrees Fahrenheit, with an average humidity of 91 percent in the morning and 68 percent in the afternoon.
  • Winter  -  The winter season in Puerto Vallarta is from December 22 - March 21. You’ll find the average temperature at 72 degrees Fahrenheit, with an average humidity of 90 percent in the morning and 66 percent in the afternoon. Winter in Puerto Vallarta is the peak season for tourism, as well as the whale-watching season.
  • Spring  -  The spring season in Puerto Vallarta is from March 22 - June 21. You’ll find the average temperature at 76 degrees Fahrenheit, with an average humidity of 88 percent in the morning and 67 percent in the afternoon.
  • Summer  -  The summer season in Puerto Vallarta is from June 22- September 21. You’ll find the average temperature at 84 degrees Fahrenheit, with an average humidity of 91 percent in the morning and 70 percent in the afternoon. Summer in Puerto Vallarta is the slow season for tourism due to the rain (see below). However, the rain isn’t all that bad and this is the best time to take advantage of the best travel rates!

Rainy Season  -  The rainy season in Puerto Vallarta is from the middle of June through the middle of October. Rains in Puerto Vallarta occur mainly at night, and come in the form of short, strong bursts. If you enjoy a quick thunder and lightning show every once in a while (which I certainly do), you're in for a treat.

Hurricane Season  -  Puerto Vallarta is, for the most part, completely protected from hurricanes by The Bay of Banderas. In nearly 40 years, Puerto Vallarta has experienced only 1 damaging hurricane.

Well, that should just about do it for any Puerto Vallarta weather information you may need for your next exotic trip. Next time you're in the area, don't forget to take along our:
